Description

Formal name: Philodendron cordatum.

Nicknames: Philodendron heartleaf, heartleaf ivy.

Family: Araceae, an epiphytic and epilithic species of Philodendron.

Native habitat: a small region in Southeastern coastal Brazil, not far from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Difficulty level: easy.

Light requirements: prefers bright indirect light. However, this plant can also tolerate shade.

Watering: frequent.

Soil: rich well draining. We recommend a combination of indoor potting soil and perlite.

Temperature: best if kept between 60 and 80 F. (16-27 C.) This plants growth will be stunted if the temperature drops below 55F.

Philodendron’s are an excellent beginner plant. They are very welcoming in any environment! But be careful, they are poisonous to animals and humans if ingested. These plants grow quickly and the cuttings can be propagated to grow new plants. Philodendron’s leaves will begin to droop, telling you exactly when they need to be watered.
